“As energy efficient as it is delightful”
– Kevin McCloud MBE, Grand Designs House of the Year.
You may have seen Mere House (also known as Wuduhus) in the latest edition of Build It magazine.
After winning the regional East RIBA award, this project was longlisted for RIBA House of the Year and featured on Grand Designs last year.
Designed by Mole Architects with passive principles at its heart, Mere House is incredibly energy efficient.
The Beattie Passive Build System allows a continuous layer of insulation to pass from floor to wall and wall to roof, resulting in a complete thermal envelope that is free from cold bridges.
The home is finished in beautifully crafted larch cladding, with MVHR and an overhanging butterfly roof that is fitted with PV panels to generate renewable energy. One of the most unusual features of the property is the inverted layout. It’s an ‘upside-down’ house, with living areas on the second floor to provide incredible views over the Cambridgeshire Fens.
